Our exclusive Historic Bridges hiking routes have been personally tested by Mary Jane Gagnier, Adventure Oaxaca’s creator. Over several years, she worked closely in the Sierra Juarez with the communal land stewardships in San Miguel Amatlan, San Juan Chicomezuchitl, Santa Maria Yahuiche and Capulalpam de Mendez to revitalize historic trail systems dependent on a series of ancient stone compression bridges that permit river crossings and trans-village slow travel.

The Sierra Juarez region of Oaxaca offers the finest slow travel to be experienced anywhere on earth. FYI, this opinion comes from Adventure Oaxaca’s creator, Mary Jane Gagnier; she trekked the Annapurna Circuit of Nepal long before exploring Oaxaca on foot. The Historic Bridges route offers a flexible accordion-expanding menu from an overnight route to a rich multi-day circuit that encompasses ecotourism lodging in four villages and four days of hiking routes that cross seven historic stone bridges.
